In 1967,
the citizens of Ozark, Alabama were concerned about the lack of available care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Together, they founded a unique community and established the Vivian B. Adams School.
Since opening its doors in 1971, the Vivian B. Adams School (VBAS) has been a pioneer in meeting the needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities. As the only school of its kind in Alabama, VBAS is unique in its ability to serve individuals with intellectual disabilities from birth through adulthood in a setting that provides both intellectual and social growth opportunities.
VBAS continues to make a dramatic difference in people’s lives by serving the various needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities from Barbour, Coffee, Dale, Henry, Houston, and Pike Counties in Southeast Alabama.
