Hannah Parker, Director
Hannah Adams Parker was named Director of Vivian B. Adams School in August,2012. She was born and raised in Ozark, Alabama and is a graduate of Carroll High School. Mrs. Parker graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences; Human and Child Development.
Before becoming Director, Mrs. Parker worked with SpectraCare, Children’s Rehabilitation Services, Vaughn Blumberg Services. She began at VBAS in July, 2007 as Long Range Program Developer.
Mrs. Parker is married, has three grown children and lives in Headland. She is a member of Ozark Kiwanis Club.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Mr. Charles Gary – Chairman
VBAS Board Chairman (appointed May 2012); retired business owner. Mr. Gary served as Dale County Commissioner and is a board member of the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission and Wiregrass Resource Conservation and Development Council. Mr. Gary’s son, Grant, attended VBAS.
Mr. Joe W. Adams
(appointed April 1979) Attorney at Law Mr. Adams serves as attorney for the City of Ozark and seven other municipalities in Dale and Barbour Counties; he is legal counsel for the Alabama ABC Board and serves as a certified mediator and hearing officer.
Peter Bruggink, PhD
(appointed November 2013) Peter Bruggink has a Ph.D from Flordia State University. He was the director of information services in Pasco County, Florida, and was an adjunct professor at FSU from 2010-2021. Currently a consultant, he’s also a member of the Ozark Rotary Club and the Dale County Council of Arts & Humanities.
Mr. John Cawley
(appointed April 2021) Managing Funeral Director, Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home, Ozark, Alabama. Mr. Cawley is heavily involved in community service activities in Ozark and the surrounding community. He is an active member and past president of the Ozark Kiwanis Club. He serves on the Wiregrass United Way Board of Directors and serves as Dale County Coroner.
Major (Ret.) Wendell Coursey
(appointed June 2022) Retired Army Major and retired Instrument Flight Instructor, Ft. Rucker, Alabama. Mr. Coursey is an active member of First Ozark United Methodist Church, serving on several church committees. He is a member of the Ozark Rotary Club as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mrs. Bonnie Crawford
(appointed April 2011) BA, MA, Ph. D.; retired business owner, educational consultant, and former Executive Director Altgeld Murray Clinic. Mrs. Crawford served on the Presidential Non-Violent Development Committee and Health Committee, Washington D.C.
Mrs. Angelia Filmore
(appointed October 2020) Municipal Clerk for the City of Daleville for 35 years. Mrs. Filmore is an active member of Daleville Baptist Church where she serves as church treasurer. She is currently President of the Daleville City Board of Education. Mrs. Filmore is a charter member of the board of directors of the Daleville Boys and Girls Club and serves as their treasurer. She is a member of the Daleville Lions Club and serves on the Board of Directors.
Judge Fred Steagall
(appointed December 2001) Attorney; retired district judge. Judge Steagall serves as chairperson of Southeast Alabama Youth Services. He serves on the Ozark Leisure Services Board of Directors and Dale County Children’s Policy Council. He is involved in numerous community organizations and is a member of the Ozark Rotary Club.
Mrs. Laura Thornton
(appointed June 2023) BS. Public Relations. Mrs. Thornton is the Public Relations Coordinator for Pea River Electric Cooperative. She serves as president of Dale County Youth Leadership Board; she is Chapter Advisor for Alpha Delta Pi Sorority at Troy University. She is a member of the Ozark Kiwanis Club and First Ozark United Methodist Church.
Mr. Bill Kamerer
Emeritus Board Member
US Air Force Veteran. Mr. Kamerer was employed for 40 years with the Maintenance Contractors at Ft. Rucker as an A&P-rated Avionics Lead until his retirement in 2020. During this time, he also served on the Hanchey Field Wiregrass United Way Committee. Mr. Kamerer served on the Vivian B. Adams School board for 17 years and is now Board Emeritus. His daughter, Amber, has attended VBAS since 1986.
