Hounds Hunting with Heart Event Shines with Cars, Hounds, and Heart

This year’s event, with Gilland Chevrolet, GMC, Ford as Presenting Sponsor, raised over $57,000! The charity event was a huge success, bringing together car enthusiasts, hunters, and families from near and far for a day full of fun, friendly competition, and unforgettable memories.

One of the big moments of the day was the $500 raffle, and we’re excited to announce that Jeff Johnson took home the prize!

The Car Show featured an impressive display of classic and custom vehicles. Winners included:

  • 1st Place & Furthest Traveled: Ronnie Sexton, 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air
  • 2nd Place: Sammy Willis, 1969 Chevy Camaro
  • 3rd Place: Doug Lawhorn, 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT
  • People’s Choice: Jimmy Shelley, 1970 Chevy Chevelle
  • VBAS Individuals’ Choice: Lynn Adkison, 2008 VW Beetle

In the afternoon, with background music provided by Jay Skeen, the spotlight turned to a spirit filled live auction with local favorite, Jim Fenn. The Hounds Hunting with Heart portion of the event, centered around the AKC Bench Show and Night Hunt.

AKC Bench Show Winners:

  • Registered Female: Queen, handled by Grant Moore
  • Champion Female: Crazy, handled by Paul Morrison

Later, the Night Hunt saw 28 dogs compete across 7 casts—all of which had plus point winners, now qualified for the UKC World Hunt. Congratulations to the top finishers:

  1. Kid – Stacy Ford
  2. Drunk – Danny Peters
  3. Gus – Shane Martin
  4. Shot – Ty Cargile
  5. Crazy – Paul Morrison
  6. Doc Holliday – Ethan King
  7. Ranger – Brian Garner

But the greatest winners of the event were the individuals attending Vivian B. Adams School. The day was made even more special with the heartfelt presentation of a $10,000 donation from the Notchaway Coon Hunters Association—a powerful moment that captured the true spirit of the event.

Funds raised have already made a real impact, including the purchase of five transport wheelchairs now in use on campus. Additional funds will go toward enhancing the Jay Adams Memorial Courtyard, supporting community participation initiatives, and assisting underserved individuals connected to the VBAS community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, donated, and came out to support. Your energy, generosity, and community spirit made this event one to remember. We can’t wait to see you all again next year!
